I have a 1993 GMC Safari with the 4.3L 6. 2 summers ago our AC went
out. I thought maybe it could be freon or something related to that
but then the following wintre we learned the heater didn't work
either! I'm guessing maybe the blower went out??? All the fuses are
okay so I'm not sure what else this would be. If it IS the blower and
I had to replace it has anybody here dealt with this on either an
Astro or Safari? Where is the blower? Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

On second thought... the blower does appear to work (on all speeds
except for HIGH)... however it ONLY blows down at foot level. Nothing
will come through any of the vents no matter how the levers are set.
What could be causing it to NOT switch off internally to blow out the
vents?

Hey lon,
im thinking your proplem is a real easy one. usally when this happens it is
just the vacum switch . look for a small vacum line that goes from your heater
controlls to your motor. if it is kinked or cut you will only get air to your
last setting. sometimes when you remove the doghouse you will kink it. mine
where made of some real brittle rubber and broke all the time. i replaced it
with new line from autozone for like 7 cents a foot and havent had no proplems.

I followed all teh vacuum lines from behind teh switch
as far back as I could get (although I didn't remove
the dog house). I pulled the plastic 'floor-vent'
piece from where the passenger's feat goes and there
was some box behind there... I could hear the AC
blowing down there... there was some door thingy on
there that was shut. I pushed it open and felt a
blast of icy air. The air from there would go into
the plastic thingy which actually diverted it up into
the actual vents. I'm guessing it probably is a vac
tube that is supposed to open this door but I haven't
been able to trace it yet. However, I did wedge a
popcycle stick down there which holds that door open
and now have ice cold air coming from the vents. :)
